“Collapsed bird” wastes ambulance crew time

Emergency crews rushed to the reports of a “collapsed bird” – only to find it was a pigeon and not a woman.

The London Ambulance Service said one senior paramedic, Rachel Lack, was furious when called to the scene in Southall, west London, around 6pm on Sunday.

She said: “When I arrived I saw three men and a woman standing around a pigeon.

“I asked if they had called an ambulance for the pigeon and they said they had. They were surprised to learn that the ambulance service is for humans not animals.”

LAS put the incident down to a language barrier. Live-tweeting the bizarre series of events, emergency planning officer Chris Hawkswell, wrote: “We have responded to a 999 call for a ‘bird collapsed’ in Southall… Turns out it was an actual bird #UseUsWisely.”
