Diabetes: doctors debate whether we should bother with intensive glucose control?

Poor glycaemic control is directly associated with the development of complications in Type 2 diabetes patients.

However, as international consensus bodies and treatment guidelines advocate more stringent criteria for controlling hyperglycaemia in patients at risk of developing complications, some of the evidence suggests that concentrating clinical efforts on intensive glucose control may not necessarily benefit patients as much as expected.
