Dermatology: antiseptic bathing of trauma patients reduces infection in intensive care

Bathing critically ill trauma patients daily with chlorhexidine significantly reduced healthcare-associated infections, researchers said.

In a single-institution, before-and-after study, the intervention reduced rates of ventilator-associated pneumonia, bloodstream infection, and colonisation with resistant pathogens, according to Heather Evans, of Harborview Medical Centre in Seattle, and colleagues.
