Scottish doctor handed life sentence for rape and abuse of women over many years

A locum doctor who raped and abused two women over a 20-year period has been jailed for life.

Michael Lever drugged one of his victims who woke up the next day naked and propped against a sofa.

The 47-year-old denied the charges, claiming the sex was consensual, but was convicted and jailed in Glasgow this week.

The attacks took place between 1993 and 2013 in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayr and the Scottish Borders.

Lever – since been struck off by the GMC – was previously jailed for 15 months in 2013 after being found guilty of attacking members of his family.

He strangled his wife in hospital accommodation while she was pregnant in 1997 and 1998.

He was also convicted of attacking her son between July 2001 and March 2004 and his 16-year-old daughter between 2008 and 2010.

Interesting story. When was he struck off? Has he had a psychiatry or psychological assessment?
