Hospital bosses delete Facebook post about Jeremy Hunt visit after staff brand him “an idiot”

NHS bosses were forced to take down a hospital’s Facebook post celebrating a visit by Jeremy Hunt – after staff reacted furiously in the comments below.

The health secretary visited Southmead Hospital in Bristol as part of a private tour of hospitals and health facilities in the city on Thursday, November 23.

The North Bristol NHS Trust, which runs Southmead, posted several pictures of the health secretary on social media after he’d left, including two photos on the Facebook page it runs for Southmead Hospital itself.

The caption to the photos read: “We were proud to welcome Jeremy Hunt to Southmead Hospital. The Secretary of State gave a passionate talk on challenging staff to make the NHS the best and safest healthcare system worldwide.”

Some members of staff reacted angrily to the Facebook post.

“If he wants it to be the best and safest healthcare system worldwide he needs to give us adequate funding and pay,” wrote one member of staff, William Quick. “Passionately challenging staff to do these things without the necessary resources won’t achieve anything.”
